The vast majority of PC users still haven't adopted Vista. Eight years after its release--and months after Microsoft officially discontinued it--Windows XP is more beloved than ever. So will Windows 7 convince XP loyalists to switch? Instead of guessing, we decided to ask them. In August, we conducted an online survey of more than 8000 people who told us that XP was their primary OS. The top three reasons they haven't upgraded to Vista: They're comfortable with XP, Vista lacks features that might justify an upgrade, and they're concerned about driver and compatibility issues.

Vistaphobia ran high among respondents who had tried Windows Vista (62 percent said that their opinion of the OS was somewhat or very negative) and among those who merely knew about it (81 percent were somewhat or very negative). But most respondents said that were keeping an open mind about Windows 7.

In fact, the 26 percent of respondents who said they had already used Windows 7 were quite enthusiastic about it: 73 percent said that their opinion of Win 7 was somewhat or very positive, and only 11 percent said that it was very or somewhat negative. Also, 56 percent said that they intended to move to Windows 7 immediately or eventually. Among respondents who had read about Windows 7 but hadn't used it, 56 percent said that their opinion of Win 7 was somewhat or very positive, and only 12 percent said that it was somewhat or very negative.

Still, a meaningful minority of respondents have no interest in upgrading: 40 percent said that they intended to stick with XP indefinitely. Which brings up another interesting question: When will it become impractical to keep using XP and spurning its successors?

Supposedly, that date has already come and gone: Microsoft formally discontinued Windows XP on June 30, 2008, and it ended mainstream support on April 14, 2009. But the company has continued to permit PC builders to offer downgrade discs that let XP fans install the OS over Vista. It says that manufacturers can ship Windows 7 machines with XP downgrades for 18 months after Win 7's release or until it ships the first Service Pack for the new OS--whichever comes first. In other words, XP downgrades may be available until April 22, 2011 (assuming that Microsoft doesn't extend the deadline further; it has already granted XP so many stays of execution that refusing to grant any more would be a bit surprising.)

Windows XP's final death knell is scheduled to sound on April 8, 2014. On that date, Microsoft says that it will no longer take support calls and issue security fixes. This doesn't mean that no one will run XP on April 9 and beyond--it just means that they'll be on their own. XP holdouts, you've been warned.

Turn Vista into Windows 7 for free

Every time Microsoft delivers a new OS it's possible to get many of the features of a Windows upgrade in the previous version of Windows. Windows 7 is no exception. Here's a roundup of a few things you can do to make Windows Vista as Windows 7-like as possible, without shelling out for the new OS.
We'll start out with a couple tweaks, then tell you about four free apps you can download. And a tip of the hat to the amazing Gina Trapani at Lifehacker, from whom I picked up several of these tricks.
First the taskbar. Windows 7 lets you "pin" apps to the taskbar and we can approximate that in Vista. Here's how.
Right-click on your taskbar.
Select toolbars.
And choose Quick Launch.
Now drag the icons you wish to "pin" into the left side of the taskbar.
Right click on the taskbar again and uncheck "lock taskbar."
Now click on the three rows of dots, hold down the mouse, and drag the bar over until you see all your icons.
Now, they look a little small like that, so let's make them bigger. Make sure the taskbar is unlocked.
Now right click on the taskbar again.
Select the view menu and choose large icons.
That's OK. But if you want a real Mac-like dock, forget all that and install RocketDock. It gives you a whole new Macish dock that you can put down at the bottom of the window instead of the taskbar.
But your Windows still looks all Vista-y. One more interface tweak before we move on. Download VistaGlazz 1.3. It's a utility that changes some system files to allow you to implement third-party themes on Vista. Launch VistaGlazz and, if you're sure, agree to allow it to modify your system files. I did it, and had no issues. But I make no guarantee.
Now you need a Windows 7 theme. Go to DeviantArt.com and get "Windows 7 Style for Vista." It should be by giannisgx89.
Download it, uncompress it, and then inside the Windows 7 Style folder, go into the theme folder and find the file called Windows 7 and the folder called Windows 7. Copy both to C:Windows\Resources\Themes\. (You'll need admin access to copy these.)
Now right-click anywhere on your Desktop and select "Personalize." Click on "Theme" and supposedly you can select the Windows 7 theme from the drop-down list. That didn't work for me, so I had to browse to C:Windows/Resources/Themes and choose the Windows 7 theme manually. Once you've got it, press Apply and you have a Windows 7 look!
You can also go to DeviantArt for wallpaper, log-in screens, and other Windows 7ish customization options.
Four free apps and we're done.
In Windows 7, Aero Shake kicks in when you shake an active Window, minimizing all the other windows. You can download a Vista version from LifeHacker for free.
Next you'll want the nifty Win 7 feature that halves the size of a window and docks it to the side of the screen. There's an app for that. It's German and it's called AeroSnap. You can get it at aerosnap.de.vu.
The Windows 7 calculator is also a lovely souped-up thing. Some intrepid hacker has actually pulled it out of Windows 7 and made it available on Box.net. You'll have to do a search to find it. And there's no guaranteeing it will still be there when you do. Is it legal? That's fuzzy. Probably not. But it is cool. Just make sure you back up your Vista calculator if you decide to replace it with this one. Just in case things go sideways on you.
Finally, Windows 7 has a much easier way to select Wi-Fi networks. It's not a perfect match, but NetSetMan from netsetman.com is much better than the default Vista manger and gives you lots of other powerful tools as well.

Lately ive been so interested in ps3 that i feel so so so damn like buying 1 and play it on a dell 24" lcd wth HDMI output Hehe. Here are some of the research ive done about it.

Confirmed: what we know
Specs: The PlayStation 3 will be the first commercial device powered by the ballyhooed Cell processor, a 3.2GHz chip that Sony developed with help from IBM and Toshiba. But it's not the Cell's clock speed that has Kutaragi billing his console as an "entertainment supercomputer"--it's the chip's seven synergistic processing elements (SPEs), which work in parallel to churn out a staggering 218 gigaflops, or 218 billion floating point operations per second. Backward compatibility: This was one of the first PlayStation 3 features to be confirmed, when the ever-loquacious Ken Kutaragi promised it way back in 2003. So whether this is something that Sony planned all along or a feature it scrambled to implement once Kutaragi bragged about it, the result is the same: you'll be able to play your PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, right out of the box, on the PlayStation 3. Graphics hardware: Remember how the Cell processor turns 218 billion flops? Well, the PlayStation 3's graphical processing unit (GPU) will crank out 1.8 trillion of them. Dubbed the RSX (short for reality synthesizer), this GPU has a 550MHz clock and pushes its billions of pixels through dual HDMI ports, which output a high-definition signal at up to 1080p. At E3, Jen-Hsun Huang from Nvidia--which designed the RSX for Sony--claimed that the RSX was as powerful as two Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra cards, which is perhaps one reason that speculation on the PS3's price tag has reached, at last count, the stratosphere.

Hard drive: One of the latest details to be confirmed for the PS3 was that the console's hard drive will be an optional accessory instead of an out-of-the-box feature; Ken Kutaragi cleverly spun the omission in Sony's favor by rationalizing that "no matter how much [space] we put in it, it won't be enough." When the hard drive does arrive, it'll carry a Linux-based operating system, which we imagine will coordinate the console's nongaming capabilities.

Blu-ray: Surprise! Sony's next-generation console will use the company's own Blu-ray discs to store high-definition content for games. That means PS3 owners will be getting a "free" Blu-ray player so that they can enjoy movies in full high-definition once they become available. The PS3 will also play standard CDs and DVDs, though it won't accept competing HD-DVD discs. While the Blu-ray format gives the PS3 a leg up on the Microsoft's Xbox 360 (which will store its games on standard DVDs), the future-friendly decision will be yet another excuse to drive up its price.

Peripherals: Like the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Revolution, the PS3 supports multiple wireless controllers. Sony gets props for supporting up to seven simultaneous gamepads, as well as for using the Bluetooth wireless standard. By comparison, Microsoft's console supports only four controllers and uses proprietary wireless transmission, while Nintendo's controllers still lack a final design.

HK Triad Boss Dead

A senior triad was knocked down by a car and hacked to death by three men outside a five-star Hong Kong hotel, police say.

The 41-year-old was attacked outside the Shangri-La hotel in the Kowloon district of the city at 4am (0600 AEST) on Tuesday, a police spokesman said in a statement.

The victim, named in reports as senior triad boss Lee Tai-lung, was hit by the car as he stepped out of his silver Mercedes-Benz after parking it at the hotel, the South China Morning Post said on Wednesday.

"Another vehicle arrived, then several men got out of it and attacked the man with knives," chief inspector Glenn O'Neill of the anti-triad unit told the Post.

Both cars and the attackers fled the scene immediately and a police statement said two burnt-out cars which they believed to be linked to the attack were found a few hours later.

The victim suffered "serious chop wounds to his arms" and was certified dead two hours after the attack, the statement said.

An investigation is now being carried out by the police anti-triad unit, the statement said.

The Post said police were looking for at least five men in connection with the attack.

Lee was a senior member of the Sun Yee On triad group, who held an enforcer role within the group, various reports said, citing unnamed police sources.

About 40 men attended a ritual outside the hotel on Tuesday night, calling out "Come back dai lo (big brother)," the South China Morning Post reported. Triad members usually call their leader "dai lo".

Several triad gangs operate across Hong Kong and Macau and are widely involved in extortion, prostitution, drugs and copyright piracy.

Violence tends to be limited to Chinese areas away from expatriate and tourist areas.

Personally based on this case, i predit a dawn of a senior and Uprising of Junior in the particular Triad!

Just received the news tat my dear gal has finally decided to go curtin perth liaw. Saw her pm Bought a one way ticket and there was no turning back? Lols...no need to have such harsh feeling la....lols ure going to a country which has better enviroment to study..Well y have harsh feeling? Its also an opportunity or a chance to experience life out of family. Well its a chance for u to learn independance but then not independant financially well its also a chance for u to grow. In my opinion 2 hands up for u to go oversea u will learn and grow faster. To share wth u as for me, in this half year i experience many things and grew and also thinked of many things tat were never thought of during my days wth families. It made me a better man. No worries go for it. Its a progress not an ending although if things worked out well there it might be a ending where u will end up staying there but then if its a progess y not? Go out see the world u will kno how small u are. If things aint happening as wat u thinked? Home is always there for u . Cheers!~ its just 2 year~ exclude the missing and home sick thingy life will be great for u ~Great enviroment great weather~ Hehe~~

Wat a relived today just received my recent medical check up and everything was ok.
It was kinda kinteo though going through all those test result.
In the situation after 22 years of living in this human life i think this was the 1st time i went to do a full medical check up. Medical check up is kinda fun! HaHa. Im still so needle paranoid like last time. Lols all my fellow frens should kno. Back in the secondary sch when we were give dunno wat injection lols my face turned white for instant when the nurse injected the fcuking needle into my body. ROFLMAO thinking bout this but then the same thing happened again this time when the medical practitioner pop the freaking needle into me.
But then it was kinda relif after looking through the report.
But then 1 thing tat was not expected and in fact we are tested for was HIV.
LoLs it was an excitement when u go through the report but then reading a negative test result under this aspect really is a relieve.
well at least im free from this untreatable STD at the moment.
Thanx god for keeping me healthy!
Other than this other aspect was normal :
BP is normal (given an unhealthy life and diet and im going through nw.)
Urine was clear. (Dun have unclear substance) HAhah.

To conclude: Medical check up is Fun!!
